Outline
Part 10.7A of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 [WHS (Mines) Regulations] prescribes positions in relation to mines. These statutory positions are appointed by the mine operator to carry out specific functions in relation to the operations of a mine.
Statutory positions are classified in several categories, with different functions and obligations, and levels of knowledge, experience, and formal qualifications for the appointed persons, with some positions requiring statutory certificates.
For training purposes there are two levels of statutory positions Supervisors and Managers. The training consists of WHS risk management units approved by the regulator DEMIRS and aligns to Schedule 26 of the WHS (Mines) Regulations.
Mine operators have a duty to establish and implement a mine safety management system (r.621) and include the management and supervisory structure for WHS at the mine (r.622).
This course will assist those who are required to hold an applicable statutory certificate, with requirements listed in Schedule 27 of the WHS Mines Regulations by giving them the knowledge and skills to be effective in their role whilst meeting the competency requirements to nominate for appointment. This course includes the risk management units for statutory positions approved by the regulator (r. 675ZZJ).

Workers being appointed to the following Statutory Positions:
- Site senior executive
- Exploration manager
- Underground manager (non-coal)
- Underground manager (coal)
- Quarry manager
- Underground ventilation officer
- Radiation safety officer
Entry Requirements
There are no specific pre-requisites for this Statutory Training.
To complete the required assessments for this course, you will need to have access to current WHS policies and procedures.
It is expected that learners completing this course meet the following minimum requirements:
- Over 18 years of age
- Minimum of year 10 of schooling, Cert III Qualification or equivalent work experience
- Proficiency in English for effective workplace communication
- Have access and use technology to create and / or update business documents
Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment will be completed prior to commencing the training, this will provide the trainer an overview of your LLN levels and assist in determining if additional support may be required to competently complete the training and associated assessments.
Delivery Format - Face to Face
Days 1&2 – BSBWHS411 & RIIRIS402E – These units are delivered as a cluster and designed for the supervisors to carry out the risk management process implemented by the managers (Managers and supervisors attend this training).
Day 3 – RIIRIS501E – This unit is delivered for managers to develop, implement and maintain appropriate risk management systems for controlling risk in their workplace (Only Managers attend this training).

#Pre course work and documentation are required to be completed as part of this training.
Additional time may be needed to complete required assessments, the candidate will have 12months to submit all required assessments for this training program.
Certification
Upon successful completion of all assessments candidates will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) in their enrolled units and a wallet card displaying the completed units. These are nationally recognised units of competence.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for all Statutory Position Training units.
RPL is an assessment-based pathway and is suitable for those who can demonstrate they have industry experience, and the appropriate skills and knowledge. No training is provided for this pathway.
